"God if you are going to give me a life long illness please make it anything but diabetes, please?"

Seems like a strange prayer right? Well not so for me! When I uttered these words I had been ill for about 10 days with flu like symptoms. None of which seemed to be getting better. My parents also noticed that any time I had sugar, I perked up. So on Monday, November 27, 2017, my parents scheduled a doctor's appointment for me at 1:45 in the afternoon.

Upon arrival at the doctor's office, I was asked a lot of questions. All of which I tried to answer as best as I could. One thing was for certain, I was very ill and tests were going to be run and we were going to get to the bottom of this.

And to the bottom we got! When the blood test results came back they found out I was diabetic. But not only that, I was in DKA (Diabetic Keto- Acidosis) and needed emergency care. My blood glucose level was 299 and I was feeling awful. We were given the option of three hospitals and we had to choose one.

That's how I landed at Boston Children's Hospital. I was in the ER until late Monday night, they then transferred me to ICP (Intensive Care Program, a step down from the ICU). I was in ICP until early evening on Tuesday when they transferred me to 7 West ( the name of the floor I was on). I got discharged early Wednesday evening in time for Youth Group.

Through all the moves in the hospital, God always provided an excellent team of doctors and nurses. I am so grateful to how kind and gentle they all were. And how they reminded me of people I knew.

I also had a lot of support from prayer partners around the globe. I'm pretty sure we only put two posts up. One on Instagram and one on Facebook, and we got between the two of them, like 500+ responses. To all of you who faithfully prayed for me ~ The Lord has promised this to me and he will never leave me!

I still have a lot to learn about my new normal. For one, I never thought I'd miss scrounging the fridge. And another, the most important lesson that I've taken out of this, God is a God of healing. Even if the way he chose to heal me wasn't in my range of ideals, he ordained it and therefore it's beautiful.
