My dear readers, y'all have probably been waiting for this day to come for a long time now... or maybe not so much.
Let me explain first.
Ever since I started this blog, I've been wanting it to be a safe space, an outlet of sorts. Not just for my thoughts, stories, and adventures, but also to feature the stories, adventures, and thoughts of the people I know. The idea came to me when a fellow blogger in the Facebook community did her first "Blog Share" a few years back. I thought, "Wow, what a neat way to communicate with the world, by featuring another's work." I nestled that thought into the back of my head, waiting for the perfect opportunity to start up a Blog Share of my own. This was about a year and a half ago.
Fast forward to about two months ago. I was introducing a friend of mine to my blog page, explaining to him all about where the crazy idea of writing a blog came from. We started talking about the differences in our writing techniques, and the genres we prefer best. The end of our conversation somehow led to him being interested in a Blog Share. It is now the start of a new year, and a new genre. The Blog Share is finally happening, all thanks to Philip Kendall.
I first met Philip (pictured above) at the beginning of the academic year, as he was going to be a new D.A. student. Our families are working for the same mission here in West Africa, but it has taken 16 years to actually cross paths with one another. Since meeting him, I've been one of the privileged few to read some of his written works. On the Blog Share, my goal is to feature some of his work over the next few weeks to give you a taste of a different, and yet exquisite, writing style.
Now that you have "met" the author, keep a lookout for some poetry and short stories that Philip has written. I will be featuring them individually over the next few weeks. If you like what you see, please don't hesitate to leave a comment of encouragement or appreciation on Facebook. We writers like to look out for each other.
Oops Statement:
It has come to my attention that in my last post I made a mistake. Dakar Academy's 2019 Outreach did not go to the Casamance, just very close to it.
