Yes, you read that title right. Kenny Chesney was in my psychology class.
Well, I mean, not literally. His voice was...
It was a Monday, and we were all really tired, my teacher included. We had been working on our unit about the study of the brain and memories. Specifically how certain sights, sounds, smells, and even tastes, can be responsible for triggering hosts of memories.
To make the class period seem more entertaining and "bearable" (my teacher's words, not mine!), she decided we needed to be exposed to the famous American country-singer, Kenny Chesney.
Hence, we plugged the speakers in and the lyrics to "I Go Back" came streaming through. The catchy tune was more than just to tune to us psychology students.
We quickly began analyzing the words, and using what we had learned from our unit to understand the hidden meanings and experiences.
Chesney's words from the song "I Go Back" remind me of my experiences in psychology class, and in other classes at Dakar Academy. They remind me fondly of the wonderful friends I have, and the crazy memories we built together.
"I go back to the smell of an old gym floor
And the taste of salt on the Carolina shore
After graduation and drinkin' goodbye to friends
And I go back to watchin' summer fade to fall
Growin' up too fast and I do recall
Wishin' time would stop right in its tracks
Every time I hear that song, I go back, I go back
We all have a song that somehow stamped our lives
Takes us to another place and time"

The feeling of "going back" that Chesney so accurately describes is something we can all relate to. We can all relate to that one song or picture or smell that reminds of when we were younger and things were easier.
On this beautiful Sunday morning I am marveling in our God. The time he took to so intricately design the human brain just blows me away. I am so grateful that he built our minds the way he did. I can take comfort in my memories and the good times past.
I encourage you, dear readers, to take the time to thank God for those he placed in your life that you are able to make memories with. It's a gift. Don't ever take that ability for granted.
