Dear Mirror, I'm Positive. It Will Get Better.

My dear readers, I must first apologize for how long it has been since I've last written. These past few weeks have been nothing short of a whirlwind of chaos, joy, and uphill battles. But, here I am, and if you are reading this... here you are.

To recap, I've been working through a series of posts about finding closure even though I've moved to the US semi-permanently for college. This journey has been particularly challenging, but it has been one I've been on nonetheless.

My prayer is that you, my dear readers, might be encouraged, uplifted, and reminded through my journey to find closure that through Christ who strengthens you, it IS POSSIBLE!

Dear Mirror, I'm Positive. It Will Get Better.

All throughout my senior year at Dakar Academy, I had this reminder written in white chalkboard marker on my mirror.

And all throughout my senior year I don't think I needed to hear that message more than I did last night.

COVID-19 has gone on for a long time, and that is hard. We've been faced with a unique set of challenges and stressors that we are not used to, and that is hard. Our government has been faced with a virus that they were not expecting would effect so many of their important decisions in their time in office, including their election campaign plans, and that is hard. Our schools and universities have put in time and a half to make this school year even happen, and that is hard. Our brothers and sisters in the black community worldwide have been struggling, and that is hard.

When sin entered the world all those years ago, life became hard and dealing with COVID has made it harder.

But is God surprised? No, He is not. Is God overwhelmed? No, He is not. Is God stressed out by these circumstances that we find ourselves in? No, He is not.

Our God is sovereign.

That word, 'sovereign', means that He holds all power.

Knowing that, we can most definitely rest assured in the fact that none of our struggles are outside of His range of hearing and none of our circumstances are outside of His control.

It is only Wednesday and this week has been difficult, but I can rest assured in the fact that my God is so much bigger than my struggles. I can rest assured in the fact that it really will get better, and so can you.

It will get better. It will get better. It will get better. It will.

And do you know what? You might have just gone through a hard day and you feel like quitting and even in light of that - it will get better. I can promise you that.

Continue casting your cares upon Him who is able. He's always listening and His arms are wide open. You just need to run to Him. And if you don't have enough energy to run alone, go to someone you trust and ask them to help you run into the arms of Jesus. Find a pastor, a youth leader, a staff member, a co-worker, an accountability partner, your spouse, a best friend, or your favorite human and ask them to pray with you. Just ask. Sometimes we need help running to the Father and that's okay.

I challenge you, dear readers, to look in the mirror at some point today and no matter how you have been feeling lately, tell yourself it will get better. Remind yourself of the One who remains in control.
